Lancaster County, PA – The Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA) is sharing an update with the community regarding the wind turbines at their landfill.
The wind turbines at LCSWMA’s Landfill are owned and operated by a national renewable energy company and powered operations for Turkey Hill Dairy for over 15 years. The turbines were installed through an agreement between Turkey Hill Dairy and their former energy partner aimed at providing renewable energy for Turkey Hill Dairy’s operations. LCSWMA’s role in the collaboration has been as the landowner, providing space for the project.
Turkey Hill Dairy and the renewable energy company have agreed that the time has come to decommission the wind turbines. Turkey Hill Dairy and LCSWMA are currently awaiting a decommissioning plan from the energy operator that will involve disassembling and removing the turbines. All parties remain committed to sustainability and serving their communities.
It is anticipated that the vast majority of the components of the wind turbines will be recycled. LCSWMA is grateful for the partnerships and community support that made this project possible and will allow Turkey Hill Dairy to share updates as the decommissioning process moves forward.
