LANCASTER (Lancaster County, PA)—The Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA) is proud to announce the donation of a used Wheel Loader to Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. Previously utilized at their Susquehanna Resource Management Complex (SRMC) facility, LCSWMA’s contribution aims to bolster the hands-on training experiences for students enrolled in the college’s Diesel Technology and Civil Engineering Construction Technology programs.
The wheel loader, a critical piece of heavy machinery in waste management, construction, and civil engineering industries, will provide students with expanded, real-world learning opportunities. By working directly with industry-standard equipment, students will be better prepared to enter the workforce with practical knowledge and technical skills that align with current industry demands.
“LCSWMA, as with many other industries, relies upon a talented and skilled workforce to deliver safe and reliable service” said Dan Youngs, Executive Director at LCSWMA. “This piece of heavy equipment will broaden the experience and training for students in fields of study which are immensely important to operating a successful solid waste authority. Thaddeus Stevens provides a robust workforce, and we have benefited from their premier curriculum as we employ several graduates from their college. We hope this donation inspires and equips the next generation of skilled technicians and engineers for impactful careers.”

Other local companies donated their services as well. The H&H Group donated the vinyl lettering for labeling the machinery, and Randy Geissler, President of Patriot Towing, was excited to participate in this day by donating towing services to transport the wheel loader from LCSWMA’s SRMC Facility to Thaddeus College Transportation Center. “Bill [LCSWMA’s Fleet and Heavy Equipment Maintenance Manager] told us what they were doing and asked if we’d be willing to [donate our services]. I said we have a lowboy we’re getting ready to put on the road. This will be our maiden voyage, so why not make it a donation back to the school and the [students]?”

This donation of heavy equipment is the first piece of equipment of its kind to be added to the college’s training resources. Pam Smith, Vice President of College Advancement at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, expressed gratitude for the gift. “This donation is super important for our community. There are a lot of job vacancies in both the diesel technology and civil technology spaces, so we are looking forward to using this equipment as part of our structural program and getting more folks out in the workforce.”
This donation underscores LCSWMA’s ongoing dedication to community engagement and education while supporting Thaddeus Stevens College’s continued efforts to offer cutting-edge technical training.
